President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel came face to face -- or face to breast -- with naked FEMEN activists as they toured an industrial fair in Hanover, Germany on Monday [Apr. 8].
However, German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared less than happy about the embarrassing security gaffe at the Hanover industrial fair.
The topless activists chanted "F*** you, dictator", with insults and slogans daubed on their bodies, before they were eventually overpowered by security guards.
One member from women’s rights group Femen was detained, according to local reports. They had targeted Putin over the detention of feminist punk band Pussy Riot.
The Russian government has now urged Germany to punish the protesters.
Putin later admitted he "liked it" but added that it was better to discuss politics "when clothed".
In a message on Twitter, Femen said: “Sextremists from Femen have just carried out an anti-dictatorial attack on Putin.”

Three members from Pussy Riot were jailed for two years last August for performing an anti-Vladimir Putin song in a church.
Femen members previously bared their breasts in protest at Putin’s policies in March 2012 at the same polling station where he cast his vote at presidential polls.
