The Igbo people of Nigeria, under the auspices of the World Igbo Congress(WIC), have taken their case of mistreatment in Nigeria to the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC). The details of the submission made to the agency were revealed at the ongoing World Igbo Congress convention in Dallas, Texas. In a session at the convention venue, Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, delegates and members agreed unanimously to pursue the part of seeking redress from the UN body on Human Rights abuses of the Igbo in Nigeria.
WIC has secured a date in April when the Igbo situation in Nigeria will be discussed at UN-ECOSOC in Geneva. Some of the delegates supported the move with the hope that it would mark the first step in what could be a long drawn out case that would not be limited to the redress of injustices and human rights abuses of Igbo people across Nigeria, but if need be, to a plebiscite, and even eventual independence.
The discussion was part of the second part of a symposium on "The Igbo Question" which started on Friday. At the Friday session, Professor Herbert Kirshman discussed WIC’s potentials in UN-ECOSOC. He offered strategies for the Igbo to bring awareness to their plights in Nigeria.
Some participants had some reservations on the direction WIC was taking in pushing for the declaration of Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. One of the participants cautioned that such a move would make it difficult for all Nigerians to travel freely without being considered terrorists.
Earlier in the day WIC introduced an extensive plan to build a regional health center in Eastern Nigeria to take care of the health needs of Igbo people and curtail the need to seek medical treatment in India and other countries of the world.
The conference continues with more discussions on the Igbo and the Nigerian polity. On Friday night various cultural groups performed for participants. Friday’s cultural event was however stolen by the appearance of former Biafran soldiers. They received a standing ovation from participants. The convention ends

The two brothers had been expelled from the party, but they managed to get a court order to reinstate them. There presence infuriated other members of the party in Abuja leading to a scuffle.

Obasanjo throws it back to Clark to retire from Politics not him OBJ

Former President Olusegun Obsanjo on Saturday replied Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark’s comment on him, saying his utterances showed it was time for him (Clark) to retire from politics.

Obasanjo’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor Durodola, who responded to comments credited to Clark in a newspaper accusing Obasanjo of sowing seeds of discord in the Peoples Democratic Party, and urging him to retire, said it was Clark who needed to retire.
Among other things, Clark had said the former President caused the current crisis in PDP by instigating Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to contest the Presidency in 2015.

Durodola told SUNDAY PUNCH that all of Clark’s allegations were baseless since he failed to provide evidence to substantiate his claims.
He said, “Usually, Baba will not dignify such a comment with a response. If he says somebody is sponsoring Governor Rotimi Amaechi, what evidence has he provided? If you have a son and he is not in good terms with your friend, will you kill your son so that your friend will know that you are his friend? That is not the way to live life. The best an elder can do is to try and settle quarrels, if there are any. Remember he (Obasanjo) is an elder statesman, a former President.

“Edwin Clark, you can see from all his utterances that he is actually the one who should go and sit down. He should not be involved in politics, he should be a leader. But if he is involved in politics, that is okay for him. The fact is that there is nothing he is saying now that he has not said before. Baba would not join issues with someone like Edwin Clark; he wouldn’t. He ought to have provided evidence, instead of making general pronouncements.”

Durodola added that Obasanjo believed that democracy meant Amaechi, Lamido or any Nigerian, had the right to contest any office they choose.

He said, “Are Lamido and Amaechi not Nigerians? Are they not eligible? Is Clark himself not eligible? What is wrong with somebody contesting? There is democracy. There should be no seal. Whoever wants to contest should be free to contest. Let the primary election determine who should be the candidate of the party. Everybody should be free to contest, including Clark. He is an elder statesman, he should know that this idea of because somebody is interested in contesting, then he becomes an enemy, is not the way of civilisation. Democracy means freedom for everybody.”

He insisted that contrary to popular opinion, Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan were in good terms.

“Just to clarify things, Obasanjo is not quarreling with Jonathan. They talk; they interact; they meet; they travel together. The fact is that he (Obasanjo) likes to express himself, and he believes in democracy,” he said.

PDP CRISIS AS ATIKU AND 7 STATE GOVS STORM OUT OF CONVENTION

A major crisis on Saturday hit the ruling Peoples Democratic Party as seven governors and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar formed a faction of the party at the national level.
The governors, who are members of the new faction, include Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano); Muritala Nyako (Adamawa); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers)

Also in the faction are an acting National Chairman, Kawu Baraje; a suspended National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and a former National Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja.

The press conference at the Sheu Yar’Adua Centre  Abuja, where the faction announced its emergence, was attended by many members of the national and state houses assembly.

The National Chairman of the faction, Baraje, said the leaders of the party came together to rescue it from undemocratic tendencies of “the former national chairman,” Bamanga Tukur.

He said, “We address you today as leaders of the PDP, who are worried by the increasing repression, restrictions of freedom of association, arbitrary suspension of members and other such violations of democratic principles by a faction of our party led by Tukur.”

He said they had  done everything humanly possible to bring to the attention of critical stakeholders within the party  to the dangers inherent in the course being charted by that leadership (Tukur),

The factional chairman said, “It has become very clear that the desperate permutations towards 2015 general elections have blinded certain people from the consequences of their actions.

“Not only has the constitution of the party been serially  violated by Alhaji Tukur and fellow travelers, all the organs of the party have been rendered virtually ineffectual by a few people who act as though above the law.”

Baraje noted that the Presidency had been encouraging the Tukur- led faction.

“Unfortunately, it is obvious that that they get encouragement from the presidency whose old calculations are geared towards shutting out any real or imagined opposition ahead of the party’s presidential primaries for the 2015 elections.”

He said as leaders of the party, they considered it a sacred responsibility to save the PDP from the antics of a few desperadoes who had no democratic temperament and were bent on hijacking the party for selfish ends.

Baraje listed the violations of the Tukur-led faction as the changing of the date of the party’s convention without the approval of the National Executive Committee.

He said the PDP NEC at its last meeting approved  July20, 2013 for the conduct of a special national convention.

The factional chairman said that date was changed to August 31 without reverting to NEC (the only authority vested with such powers) by a few people, apparently acting on the authority of the presidency.

He added, “Notwithstanding the fact that INEC had noted that the PDP congresses in nine states were not presently conducted, the illegal delegates from such states are being paraded at the so-called convention being held today  (Saturday) in a cynical attempt to circumvent the law an further bring the name of the party to disrepute.

“In gross violation of the PDP constitution, which stipulates that the NEC meeting must hold at least once in a quarter, Tukur and a few people have been running the party like a personal fiefdom without recourse to that important decision-making organ of the party.

“The NEC of the party accepted the resignation of the former members of the NWC whose offices were affected by INEC observations based principally on the agreement that the affected officers would be returned to their respective offices at the convention.”

He said in spite of the NEC decision, the positions of the former officers had been given to “some Yes-men within the party.”

Baraje said in spite of INEC’s insistence that Senator Any Uba was the duly elected   candidate of the party in Anambra State; the Bamanga Tukur-led executives announced the suspension of Uba and some other members close to him in defiance of subsisting court orders.

He also faulted the dismissal of a former National Chairman, Mr. Sam Jaja, by the Rivers State chapter of the party with the alleged connivance of the Tukur leadership.

He also cited the suspension of Amaechi and Wamakko.

He said, “Even when the illegal suspension of Sokoto State governor has been lifted, the Rivers governor remains purportedly suspended for no just cause.”

Baraje also said the   dissolution of the Adamawa State chapter of the party was a clear abuse of power by Tukur, thus causing confusion in his home state.

The factional chairman said, “Given the foregoing, it is very clear that the Tukur leadership cannot guarantee for our millions of party members democracy anchored on free choice and the rule of law.

“We have therefore taken it upon ourselves to rescue the party from their dictatorial leadership.”

“It is indeed noteworthy that from 1999 to date, Nigerians have constantly voted the presidential candidates presented by our great party but not only does such trust come with enormous responsibility, we recognise that we cannot continue to take the people for  granted.

“From now, the new leadership of the party under us will strive to build a fairer as well as a more transparent and accountable PDP that will put the interest of members and indeed all the people of Nigeria above that of one single individual.

“For all the members of our great party who may have become disillusioned by the anti-democratic tendencies of the Tukur leadership, there is a new lease of life in the horizon.

“It s a new day for the Peoples Democratic Party. As we take over the leadership of the PDP, our immediate priority is to revive the culture of robust debate of all contending issues while providing a level-playing field for all our members.”

In a swift reaction, Tukur promised that the party would deal with the governors at the appropriate time.

Tukur told journalists at the Eagle Square, that the governors were planning to defect to another party.

He said, “The PDP does not recognise any parallel party. Those who staged the walkout  are all self-seeking and treacherous individuals pursuing neither regional nor religious agenda except their own agenda, except their own personal interest.

“Their attempt to create parallel party is illegal, unlawful as there are no crises within the PDP whatsoever.
“They were all active participants in the setting up of this convention.

“And many of them were with the President and rode with him to the convention venue and joined them in the salutation of all the delegates including their state delegates.”

“The PDP is studying the situation as it unfolds and will deal decisively as the situation warrants.

“It is obvious that they are creating crisis where there is none to give the impression that the party is divided. This in their thinking will allow them persuade loyal members of the National Assembly to cross carpet with them. We will resist this.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Movement has saluted what it described as the bravery and statesmanship of the dissenting delegates of the PDP.

The National Chairman of PDM, Mr. Bashir Ibrahim, who spoke through his Media Advisor, Alaba Yusuf,  said, “We appreciate their bold, brave and patriotic stand of these delegates for refusing to participate in an election which they knew gave no even playing ground to all stakeholders.’’

This saga is gradually sliding into an expose of dirty linen and Social media is wondering Who is fooling and lying to the Nigerian public between Femi Fani-Kayode and Bianca Ojukwu? Few weeks back, a magazine had quoted Bianca Ojukwu as saying that the relationship between she and Fani-Kayode was not meant to be, that’s why they broke up.

In his reaction to Bianca’s “denial”, Fani-Kayode said:
He sympathizes with her delicate situation and once again he expresses his regrets about the fact that he exposed their once sweet love affair in his harmless write up. But what he can’t understand is why his former lover will be denying ever knowing him. He just can’t understand!
Consequently, Fani-Kayode has instructed his own lawyers to meet Bianca’s lawyers in court if they so wish to take the matter that far, after he has said ‘sorry’ for revealing their affair.

Male Semen Now the Fastest selling item in Nigeria

Semen has become one of the hottest selling in Lagos at the moment as couples in desperate need of children are paying as much as N50,000 for a "sachet." Dr Adegbite Ogunmokun, the chief consultant and head, obstetrician and of the fertility department at Eko Hospitals, said fertility problem, based on recent experience, has tilted more towards the male factor.

He said: “If 10 couples come in, there will be problem with the male in six of them, using our parameter of 20 million sperm per millimetre. Some 10 to 15 years ago, maybe about four out of 10 men would have problem.”

A fertility expert at Mother’s World Care, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr Margaret Olusegun, said: “A man should have a good count, up to 40 to 50 million sperm per millimetre of semen upward but you find that these days, men have more challenges with fertility than women. Although, I don’t have the statistics, men are the ones with more challenges now, even though they are the ones who drive out their wives if they can’t bear children.”

Dr Ogunmokun described low concentration of sperm as oligospermia. He, however, said a sperm count with a minimum lower limit of 20 million sperm per millimetre of semen would still be considered normal but he added that any sperm concentration of less than 20 million per millimetre of semen could be categorised as mild, moderate or severe oligospermia, depending on the count.

Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu refutes Fani-Kayode's sex tales with her , Issues 7 days Ultimatum!

Accusations poured in by enfant terrible Femi Fani -Kayode!

Fani-Kayode had in his article, entitled: “Neither a tribalist nor a hater,” published in the social media and some segments of the national dailies (not The Sun), claimed to have met with Bianca when she was Miss Bianca Onoh at the Cambridge College and had “intimate” relationship with her together with two other Igbo ladies.
Reacting to this, Bianca said  she had never met Fani-Kayode before, either at official or private level, not to talk of having an “intimate” relationship with him.
The ambassador, who spoke through her lawyers, Wall Street Attorneys, has, therefore, threatened to drag the former aide to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo to court if, in the next seven days, he fails to retract his libelous publication against her.
In the letter from her lawyers to Fani-Kayode, dated August 27, 2013 and signed by Mike Ugwuanyi, Esq, Mrs. Ojukwu demanded that the former minister writes an apology and retraction of the said libelous publication in The Sun and Thisday newspapers, as well as publish it in the online publication, where it emanated, in the next seven days or face litigation.
The letter written by Mrs. Ojukwu’s lawyers and obtained by The Sun read in part: “We have been briefed and our services retained by Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain to demand from you an unreserved apology and a retraction of a false and malicious statement, which you published online and also caused to be published in the Leadership Newspaper of August 16, 2013.
“In the said article entitled, ‘Neither a Tribalist nor a Hater,’ you recklessly alleged, as follows: ‘I was not a tribalist when I had a long standing and intimate relationship with Miss Bianca Onoh…’, a statement, which you know is untrue and unfounded, but only calculated to lower our client’s esteem and damage her national and international reputation.
“Our client has never met you, does not know you in person and has never had any official or private relationship with you how much more ‘a long-standing and intimate relationship.’
“Our client is therefore, outraged by your bizarre and scandalous allegation and the numerous mails and telephone calls she has received from friends, relations and admirers who are equally embarrassed and who seek to confirm the veracity or otherwise of your false and reckless publication.
“Your apparent lame and half-hearted attempt, as published in the Leadership Newspaper of 17th August 2013, to clarify your false and malicious allegation falls far short of a retraction and does not sufficiently address the damage to our client arising from the widespread dissemination of your false publication and is therefore unacceptable to our client.
“In the circumstances, we demand, on the instruction of our client that you submit to her a clear and unqualified apology and retraction published in The Sun and Thisday newspapers in addition to having the retraction published online.
“Take note that should you fail to tender the apology and publish a retraction of your false and malicious publication, seven days next after your receipt of this demand notice, our further instructions are to seek appropriate redress in court. And that shall be without further recourse to you. Be properly guided.”

BREAKING NEWS : PDP suspends Andy Uba, four others ...

The Peoples Democratic Party has suspended a serving Senator, Andy Uba, and four other members of the party from Anambra State.
The National Working Committee of the PDP suspended the five men for failing to honour the party’s invitation over the parallel congress organised in Awka on Saturday.
The suspension was contained in a letter addressed individually to the five men. The letters were signed by the party’s Acting National Secretary, Remi Akintoye.
Others suspended alongside Senator Uba are his brother, Chris Uba, a factional chairman of the PDP in Anambra, Ejike Oguebego, Benji Udeozor, and Tonia Nwankwu.
Andy Uba gad won the PDP governorship ticket for Anambra at the parallel primary conducted by the Oguebego leadership of the party in the state.
The PDP national headquarters has recognised Tony Nwoye, elected at another congress, as the party’s flag bearer for the Anambra governorship election in November.

The decision followed the meeting of the NWC after they reviewed the events of the Anambra state primaries, where a parallel primary was held by the Oguebego-led faction of the party.
It would be recalled that, Senator Andy Ubah who belonged to the Oguebego faction of the party, emerged winner of the parallel primary , as the flag bearer of the party to run for the governorship seat in the November 16th election, the party leadership however swung to action to calm what would have degenerated into an impasse in the party at the state level, by recognising the other faction as legitimate, which according to a statement released was conducted by the Katsina governor, hinting that any other primary is illegal.
The party then summoned Andy Ubah, the chairman of his PDP faction, Ejike Oguebego, Chief Benji Udeozor, and Mrs Tonia Nwankwu to appear before it yesterday, as it prompted the law enforcement agents to be on red alert to make arrest of some people who will illegally flaunt materials of the party under the aegis of being members of the party in the state.
However, it was reported that the summon by the NWC was not granted, hence their suspension.
Along with Senator Andy Ubah, the National Working Committee also suspended Chris Ubah the brother to the senator, the leader of the faction, Ejike Oguebego and two others, and also, the committee has forwarded their case to the party disciplinary committee for further necessary action, according to the acting national secretary of the party, Charles Akitoye.

NO OLDS BARRED AT CHELSEA

Chelsea have dabbled before with veteran forwards — and seen very mixed results . . .

Africa’s greatest ever player arrived in 2000 from AC Milan, aged 33. He was rarely given a chance under Gianluca Vialli, despite scoring on his debut against Spurs.
VERDICT: Miss.

Why Jonathan Fired Youth Minister – Presidency

By: George Agba

The presidency yesterday explained why President Goodluck Jonathan sacked former minister of youth development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, saying it was because of the minister’s failure to give leadership direction to the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) elections that led to the decision to terminate his appointment. A statement by special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said: “In point of fact, it was Alhaji Abdulkadir’s regrettable deviation from this presidential commitment in the management of the NYCN elections that led to the decision to relieve him of his appointment as minister of youth development.” The presidency, however, faulted the speculations in the media on the reason for the termination of the appointment of the former youth minister. According to the statement, media organisations “erroneously attributed the minister’s sacking to his disloyalty or closeness to a particular governor or governors said to be opposed to the president. “The most disingenuous and malicious speculation was that which claimed that Alhaji Abdulkadir was fired for failing to ensure that a pro-Jonathan candidate emerged as president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). “We wish to assure the general public that nothing could be further from the truth. President Jonathan regards all Nigerian youths as his wards and constituents. Claims that he had a preferred candidate in the NYCN elections are completely baseless and without justification as there was absolutely no reason for him to prefer one candidate over others.” Explaining further why the former minister was sacked, Abati said: “President Jonathan was very displeased with the mishandling of the NYCN elections in Makurdi and Minna by the Ministry of Youth Development which resulted in the unfortunate fractionalization of the youth council. “The President found the ministry’s failure to provide appropriate leadership towards open and transparent youth council elections unacceptable,” adding that President Jonathan was sincerely committed to doing everything possible to ensure that the Nigerian youth, on whom the country’s aspirations for a bright and prosperous future depend, are given the best possible upbringing and orientation. “The President therefore expects all officials of his administration to exhibit greater rectitude and sensitivity on issues related to youth development, and comport themselves at all times in a manner worthy of emulation by Nigerian youth. President Jonathan remains sincerely and unwaveringly committed to doing all within his powers to promote the credibility and integrity of the electoral process at all levels in the country. “He firmly believes that a culture of free, fair and credible election must be constantly nurtured and encouraged amongst Nigerian youth and all other sections of the country,” it added. - See more at: http://leadership.ng/news/290813/why-jonathan-fired-youth-minister-presidency#sthash.dJIyUjeV.dpuf

New York Cop Punches Pregnant Rochester Woman In The Head as US celeberates MLK Day.

August 28th, 2013 - MLK 50th Anniversary !!

Source: YouTube
Source: YouTube
I’m not even sure where to begin with this disturbing video.

This video has surfaced on the Internet of what appears to be Rochester police officers attempting to arrest a young woman and a young man while on a residential property. All of the details surrounding the arrest are still unclear, but what’s very evident is the excessive force used by one officer to subdue the young woman, who hysterically cried and screamed out that she was pregnant.
“I’m pregnant! Get off of me. You’re going to kill my baby,” the woman yelled, as the officer ordered her to put her hands behind her back.
About 48 seconds into the video, the officer shockingly throws the woman, who has been identified as 21-year-old Brenda Hardaway, up against a banister, punches her in the head and tackles her to the ground.
“My baby, no. My baby, please,” she pleads with the officer, who appears to be putting her in a headlock, as her family hysterically cries for help in the background.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the officer shown in the video is Lucas Krull. The incident reportedly occurred after officers tried to arrest another person and Brenda intervened. Police claim that Brenda was arrested because she threatened to use a can of pepper spray on them, but her mother, Claire Taylor, claims that she didn’t even have pepper spray on her at the time. Brenda’s 16-year-old brother, Romengeno, who can also be seen being apprehended by officers in the video, revealed that his sister didn’t want officers to put her hands behind her back because she was six months pregnant and feared falling forward.
“She didn’t want to get handcuffed from behind because she’s pregnant and she was afraid of falling forward,” he said.
So far there has been no word on what’s being done about the brutality demonstrated by Officer Krull, but Brenda has been charged with  second-degree assault, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a noxious material and third-degree menacing. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the police were called to the home by a neighbor who overheard a familial dispute.
“It was a family dispute and there was no reason for the cops to be there. They had no consent to be on my property. We probably could’ve handled (our dispute) a little differently,” Claire told reporters.
In a press conference regarding the incident, Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard praised the officers involved in the incident for the level of restraint they used.
“I think if you watch the video what you do see is that all the officers involved used tremendous

restraint during the course of this event,” said Sheppard.
