1. Buhari Rejects Boko Haram’s Nomination as Mediator - 08 Nov 2012
Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) leader, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday rejected his nomination by Boko Haram to mediate in talks with the Federal Government in a bid to end the terror activities of the group in the country.
Buhari, reacting personally for the first time since his name was mentioned, along with five others by the sect last week, said he would neither work for the insurgency group nor negotiate on behalf of the Federal Government.
His party had earlier distanced him from the Islamic sect’s activities, saying he would not take up the offer.
He also spoke on the ongoing merger talks of opposition parties, saying the alliance, when it comes to fruition, would ensure the defeat of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general election.
Affirming his party’s position on the issue, Buhari told reporters shortly after the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting of CPC in Abuja, that he has nothing to do with the sect and does not know any of its members.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/buhari-rejects-boko-haram-s-nomination-as-mediator/130039/

March 28, 2013
Action Congress Party stalwart Ayo Akande in Lagos State has said the All Progressive Congress will eradicate the Boko Haram menace within a month in power.
He said the inception of the presidency of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan set the stage for the escalation of terrorism by the shady group.
Akande, who spoke in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, believed in APC’s capability to dealing with myriad of problems bedeviling the country.
He also predicted the likelihood of victory as the newly formed party sets to take on the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015.
Akande said, “I am optimistic within one month of an APC government in Aso Rock, Boko Haram restiveness will disappear. This is because the grievances of injustice, corruption, insensitivity, hopelessness and unemployment adduced by the sect would have been resolved.”http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-will-eradicate-boko-haram-in-a-month/

Presidential candidate for the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 Presidential election, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has frowned on the emergency rule in parts of the North. He alleged that innocent civilians were being killed in the states.
Buhari speaking during a Liberty FM Hausa Service Programme, Guest of the Week, on Sunday in Kaduna said that Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the “special treatment” given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government.

4. (Far) North kicks against ban on B’Haram, Ansaru, June 6, 2013
The North...disagreed with the National Assembly on the proscription of two Islamic miltant groups – Boko Haram and Ansaru–by President Goodluck Jonathan.
While the North through its two prominent groups, the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum, faulted the ban, the National Assembly insisted that it was a welcome development.
To the ACF and the NEF, the Jonathan administration has through the ban thrown a spanner in the works in its efforts to end bloodletting in the North through amnesty for Boko Haram and Ansaru members.
They said they were waiting to see how the Federal Government would address the crisis in the North. http://www.punchng.com/news/north-kicks-against-ban-on-bharam-ansaru/

5. ACN: Boko Haram’s ban violates Constitution
Posted by THE NATION NEWSPAPERS, June 10, 2013
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said that the recent proscription of Boko Haram and Ansaru, desirable as it may be in tackling the terrorist organisations, violates the Constitution.
According to the party, the proscription stifles the press and tampers with the fundamental human rights of Nigerians.
In a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the ACN said the order also makes it easy for an increasingly intolerant government to clamp down on the opposition, which it sees more as an irritant than an indispensable part of democracy.http://thenationonlineng.net/new/acn-boko-harams-ban-violates-constitution/

6. Whatever happens in the North is our own doing – Sultan of Sokoto (January 15, 2013)
Respected Islamic cleric and Sultan of Sokoto Dr. Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III has said that the present (BOKO HARAM) insecurity and other associated challenges tearing the northern region apart were caused by the region itself.
The traditional ruler said this while speaking in Kaduna at a meeting of the Northern Governors Peace and Reconciliation Committee. He noted that the problem of the north will remain the problem of the entire country, since the north could not be left with its problems alone.
