A body, Concerned Indigenes of Oghara, in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, has resisted an alleged imposition of candidates on the people of Oghara and the entire Ethiope West by the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.
In a communiqué signed at the end of an emergency meeting convened at Oghara, by the Chairman of the group Mr. Egwuriase Ukavbe and Secretary Mr. Joseph Akpuma, and made available to journalists, the body explained that the decision stems from the recent publication in the Urhobo Vanguard of April 22 – 28, 2014 edition that the Ethiope West seat in the Delta State House of Assembly has been sealed for his daughter, Barr. Erhitake Ibori, against 2015 which they said they have confirmed to be true.
The body called on Ibori to allow Oghara people to choose their candidate for the Chairmanship position of Ethiope West Local Government Council and any other position, as the seat in the Delta State House of Assembly which he has reserved for his daughter was enough for him, pointing out that it was unfair and an affront on the people of Oghara if he considers the two slots to himself in the same family.
The group noted that for the interest of peace and harmonious co-existence, he should jettison the idea of giving the Chairmanship position of the local government council to his cousin since his cousin has benefited and been empowered by him as a member, Secretary and a Chairman of a board from 1999 to 2011 in the state.
The body said there are allegations that Ibori was having a soft spot for another of his relation, for the chairmanship position of Ethiope West Local Government Council in the forth coming council election where the said cousin had printed his posters with the inscription “ On Ibori decision we stand” pasted all over Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The group added that going by Ibori’s antecedent on matter of imposition of candidates, either for election or appointments, he has not been fair to the people of Oghara and despite the relentless stand and support for him by the people of Oghara, even throughout his period of travail, he has never considered Oghara people to be his favourites, describing the entire process as an affront to all decent indigenes of Oghara community.
They averred that it is true that Ibori was entitled to a slot among slots, yet he cannot have it all as he has sealed the seat of the House of Assembly for his daughter, but Oghara people should be allowed to pick a candidate of their choice who can deliver the best to them.
The body maintained that it is on record that since 1999 till date no Oghara person is politically groomed and empowered by Ibori as they queried if they are living in his enclave in which all others are his slave workers to be used and dumped or is he thinking that “we did not contribute to his success?, we remember how he started in 1998 to become a Governor, even then most of his relations who are buoyantly empowered today were not in the scene, but all Oghara politicians gathered together around him”.
The people summed up by adding, for example, “the likes of Isaac Udju, Simeon Odoh, Princewill Ejogharado and Benjamin Oboh floated a body called Concerned Deltans for Ibori (CDI) “in 1998 where the body went to every nook and cranny of Delta State to propagate the man Ibori”, but the group was not remembered after the election.
