Why I’m Joining PDP – Ex- Gov Sheriff

Why I’m Joining PDP – Ex- Gov Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, yesterday confirmed his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Senator Sheriff said if President Goodluck Jonathan declares his interest in the 2015 presidential race, he would work for him to win the election.

He disclosed his defection to the PDP yesterday at the Maiduguri Airport where his supporters gathered to receive him on his arrival in the state.

At the time of filing this report, Senator Sheriff was holding a meeting with his supporters at his residence in Maiduguri.

According to the former Information Commissioner under incumbent Governor Kashim Shettima, Inuwa Bwala, Sheriff is joining the PDP with the state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zanna Umar Mustapha.

Bwala told an online news medium, Pointblanknews.com that Mustapha and several other APC chieftains would join Sheriff in the PDP.

He said: “We have left. We are moving with everyone that matters to the PDP, even his (Shettima) deputy governor is with us. Governor Shettima is alone. He only has his wife with him.”

Nigerian Pilot learnt that 21 members of the State House of Assembly would join Sheriff in his new party at a formal reception to be organized by Borno PDP for the former governor.

Senator Sheriff’s move to join the PDP came to limelight when he expressed outrage against the APC convention where the party’s national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu imposed former Edo State Governor, Chief John Oyegun as APC chairman .

The Sherriff group had preferred former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, who was schemed out of the office.

Prior to that, Sherriff had engaged Tinubu in a shouting match where he alleged that his dictatorial tendencies would destroy the APC.
