Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai has shown that he intends to participate fully in the country’s war against terrorism.
Buratai initially made this clear in July 2015 when he visited troops in Yobe despite twin bombings which rocked the state capital, Damaturu that month.
The Army Chief has also been pictured in Abuja working out with soldiers, the second time he has taken part in such an exercise.

Very nice? They were exercising in their uniform and would go back to work after sweating under that hot sun. Within minutes of their stopping to exercise, bacteria would begin to feed on the dried sweat and the consequence would be that these soldiers, including their boss, would smell up the entire offices.

If the Army Chief is serious, the exercise must be mandatory and have its place and time -- in the mornings and with exercise shorts and shirts. Their exercising under this much clothing and under the hot sun can trigger fatal heart attack, especially so when exercising has never been their routine for some decades now.

The Army Chief, Buratai, looks fit for his age, unlike his immediate predecessors who were fat toads. He should reintroduce mandatory exercises for his soldiers as was the case in the 1970s. Such a policy should have a direction, not this drama shown here.
